College of Information Technology Organizes an Outstanding Awareness Campaign on Phishing and Online Fraud at Lulu Mall
On Friday, November 22, 2024, the College of Information Technology successfully organized an awareness campaign on the risks of phishing and online fraud at Lulu Mall. The event attracted a significant number of visitors of all ages.
The campaign was led by Dr. Ahmed Khalifa, Dean of the College, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Sufian Khawaldeh and Dr. Sangheetha Sukumaran. They delivered an insightful presentation highlighting modern methods and techniques used in cyber fraud attacks. The presentation focused on how cybercriminals exploit innovative tactics to breach data and target individuals, while also offering practical advice on how to avoid falling victim to such attacks.
Additionally, the campaign featured an engaging contribution from the College’s students, who performed an interactive demonstration through a dramatized scenario simulating common phishing attacks. The students explained the impact of such attacks, ways to identify them, and how to avoid them, while also sharing practical tips for protecting personal information online. This presentation received enthusiastic interaction from the audience.
A standout addition to the campaign was a dedicated segment educating the public on how artificial intelligence is used to create Deepfake videos. The organizers explained the dangers of this rapidly evolving technology and its role in social engineering attacks by producing highly convincing fake media. They emphasized the importance of raising awareness about these future challenges.
The event also included a fun and interactive competition, which added excitement and encouraged active participation from attendees, helping to reinforce the concepts presented.
