1. Social Problems and Vulnerable Groups work extensively explores critical social problems, including those related to: • Family disintegration • Child neglect and abuse • Youth challenges • Student-related issues • Domestic violence, 2. Juvenile Delinquency and Crime A significant portion of Dr. Al-Matalka’s research is dedicated to understanding juvenile delinquency and the broader dynamics of crime. He investigates: • The social and familial factors contributing to juvenile behavior • Patterns of deviance and criminality • The relationship between socio-economic conditions and crime rates, 3. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Social Support Dr. Al-Matalka is interested in the role of NGOs in social development, particularly their influence on: • Alleviating poverty and unemployment • Enhancing social services • Promoting child welfare and education, 4. Youth Studies and Youth Violence Understanding youth behavior and the social pressures they face forms a core part of his research. His studies delve into: • Youth attitudes toward marriage, education, and employment • The causes and consequences of youth violence • Strategies for preventing radicalization and promoting social cohesion, 5. Poverty, Unemployment, and Social Inequality Dr. Al-Matalka explores the structural causes of poverty and unemployment and their impact on individual behavior and community stability. His interest lies in identifying sociological solutions to bridge social inequalities and foster economic justice., 6. Terrorism and Extremism He investigates how economic and social deprivation, ignorance of religious teachings, and marginalization can contribute to extremism and terrorism. His work offers insights into prevention strategies through education and social reform., 7. Family and Social Relations His research includes in-depth studies on family counseling, marital relationships, and the influence of family dynamics on youth development. He is also concerned with issues like communication patterns within families and their psychological impact. 8. Sociology of Risk and Media In recent years, Dr. Al-Matalka has also explored modern sociological themes such as: • Risk perception in societies • The role of media in shaping social attitudes and behaviors • The influence of artificial intelligence on social cohesion

Dr. Faisal Al Matalka

Dean College of Arts and Humanities

Associate Professor of Sociology, Dr. Al-Matalka currently serves as a faculty member and Acting Dean at the College of Arts and Humanities, University of Fujairah. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Rajasthan University, India, and has over 25 years of academic, administrative, and social development experience across the UAE and Jordan. His teaching portfolio spans diverse courses in sociology, social work, and criminology. Dr. Al-Matalka's research focuses on pressing social issues including youth delinquency, domestic violence, drug abuse, family dynamics, and the societal impacts of crime and unemployment. He has published extensively in Arabic and international journals and actively contributes to professional development, social policy discourse, and community engagement.

International Conference on Extremism and Terrorism and Their Effects on Comprehensive Development o Date: October 24–25, 2018 o Location: Aqaba University of Technology, Aqaba, Jordan o Presentation: “The Impact of Unemployment and Poverty on Terrorist Behavior from the Perspective of Jordanian Academics.” o Description: This conference provided a platform to explore the socio-economic roots of extremism and its implications on development, with Dr. Al-Matalka presenting a critical sociological perspective on radicalization.

  • 2. International Sociological Association Mid-Term Conference o Date: September 21–23, 2009 o Location: Jaipur, India o Presentation: “The Health Impact of Violence Against Women in Aqaba Region – Jordan” o Hosted by: Research Committee on Sociology of Health (RC 15) o Description: This global gathering focused on health and society, where Dr. Al-Matalka highlighted gender-based violence as a critical public health and sociological concern in Jordan.

  • Between 2009 and 2012, delivered over 20 keynote and expert lectures across various symposia and workshops held in Aqaba, Jordan, tackling pressing societal issues such as: • Domestic Violence (2009–2012): Delivered expert talks in forums organized by the Directorate of Social Development, Businesswomen’s Club, and Jordanian Japanese Fertilizers Company. • Juvenile Delinquency (2009): Participated in symposia addressing community responsibility and correctional justice for youth offenders. • Violence Against Women and Children (2009–2010): Frequent speaker at events organized by NGOs and community centers. • Youth Empowerment and Hashemite Leadership (2009–2010): Spoke at various events sponsored by the Youth Directorate on national identity, values, and leadership.

  • Workshops at the University of Science and Technology of Fujairah (USTF) Dr. Al-Matalka has been an active participant in over 40 faculty development seminars and professional workshops at USTF from 2022 to 2025, focusing on: • Artificial Intelligence and Technology Integration in Education • Academic Integrity and Plagiarism • Curriculum Design and Learning Outcomes Assessment • Community Engagement and Strategic Planning • Cybersecurity, Digital Transformation, and LMS Innovations
