As part of its active participation in UAE Innovation Month, the University of Fujairah participated in a high-level scientific debate organized by Fujairah Municipality titled “Future Cities: Between Ambitious Vision and Uncertainty.” Dr. Yomna Shaker from the College of Engineering and Technology represented the university at the event.
The debate brought together academics and specialists to discuss key issues in developing smart and sustainable cities. The discussions highlighted the opportunities presented by modern technologies and the challenges facing urban planning and expansion amid rapid technological advancements.
The session covered several critical topics, including, Environmental sustainability and its role in designing eco-friendly cities, Smart infrastructure and its potential to meet the needs of future communities., The use of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) and their impact on urban life, Balancing modernity and national identity, and the ability of societies to preserve their traditions amid rapid technological developments, as well as The role of economy and innovation in driving smart urban development.
Additionally, the session explored the social and cultural implications of digital transformation, raising questions about technology's impact on human interaction and community engagement. The discussions also addressed whether smart cities can balance technological innovation and effective human communication.
Participants emphasized aligning innovation with societal values to ensure sustainable development while preserving social cohesion.
The event witnessed a strong attendance from urban planning, environmental, and technology experts, alongside researchers and professionals keen on shaping the future of smart cities in the UAE.
